Sen. Gatchalian urges quick repairs on damaged Marilao bridge ahead of Holy Week

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Saturday called on concerned agencies to immediately repair the damaged Marilao Interchange Bridge along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), stressing that the upcoming Holy Week makes it urgent to ease the heavy traffic caused by the damage.

“For several days now, the damaged bridge in Marilao Interchange has been causing horrendous vehicular traffic along NLEX, especially during peak hours, leading to significant travel delays for many travelers,” Gatchalian said.

“With Holy Week rapidly approaching, it is crucial that all expressway routes are promptly and thoroughly addressed to ensure a smooth, hassle-free journey for our kababayans,” he added.

The senator questioned reports that repairs could take two to three weeks, urging quicker action.

Meanwhile, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon earlier asked NLEX Corp. to waive toll fees for the affected segment during repairs.

“Wala dapat babayaran ang mga kababayan natin habang ginagawa nila ito… They owe it to the public na huwag muna silang maniningil for that segment lang na tinamaan,” Dizon said.

He also called on NLEX management to open additional lanes to help improve traffic flow while repair works are ongoing.
