LEGAZPI CITY – Parts of Albay province will experience a 12-hour power interruption on Thursday as the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reconfigures transmission lines, while the Albay Electric Cooperative Inc. (Aleco) schedules distribution line improvements in several areas.

In an advisory Tuesday, NGCP said the power interruption will be from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. to facilitate reconfiguration of the tapping pole for the new Aleco Cullat Load-end Substation.

The activity requires shutting down the Daraga-Sto. Domingo 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line, affecting the Salvacion Load-end Substation and Sta. Misericordia Feeders 1 and 2.

In an interview, Aleco information officer Anj Galero said affected areas include portions of Bacacay and Sto. Domingo, as well as island villages in Albay’s First District.

Aleco schedules separate power interruptions on the same day to facilitate improvements and maintenance on distribution lines, according to Galero.

Under its Washington Feeder 3 schedule, momentary power interruptions are set 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in parts of Legazpi City and Daraga.

“In Legazpi City, affected areas include barangays Taysan, Mariawa, Maslog, Homapon, Bagacay, and a portion of Banquerohan. In Daraga, affected barangays are Canarom, Mayon, San Ramon, Villahermosa, Bigao, San Rafael, Nabasan, San Vicente Grande, and Ibaugan,” she said.

Aleco also scheduled an 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. power interruption in portions of Banquerohan, Imalnod, Bagacay, Cagbacong, San Francisco, and Buenavista in Legazpi City, as well as the entire coverage area of Manito.

The interruption facilitates the continuation of distribution line restoration work, including the conversion of single-phase lines to three-phase lines from Barangay Banquerohan in Legazpi City to Barangay Cawayan in Manito.

A scheduled power interruption will also occur on Ligao Feeder 1 on Oct. 29 and Nov. 3, affecting 31 villages in Ligao, 20 in Oas, and two in Jovellar and Pio Duran, all in Albay’s Third district, for distribution line enhancement.

NGCP said it will make every effort to restore power earlier than scheduled or within the announced timeframe. (PNA)
