Second child dies in measles outbreak as US cases near 650

A second child has died in the ongoing measles outbreak in the southwestern United States, with nearly 650 people now infected. The child, who had been receiving treatment for complications related to measles, was not vaccinated and had no known underlying health conditions, according to Aaron Davis, vice president of UMC Health System in Texas.

The outbreak, the worst the US has seen in years, has raised concerns as health officials continue to warn about the dangers of measles. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the health secretary under President Donald Trump, who has previously downplayed the importance of vaccines, stated on X Sunday that “the most effective way to prevent the spread of measles is the MMR vaccine.”
