At least two people were killed and five others, including a 2-year-old boy, were wounded in a shooting at Seattle Center in Washington state on Sunday, according to local reports.
Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson said authorities had taken one suspect into custody as police secured the area and began investigating the attack.
The shooting occurred near the center’s fountain while the Bite of Seattle festival was underway. A witness said several gunshots rang out, prompting people in the area to flee.
Emergency responders identified the injured as three women aged 39, 40 and 56, a 23-year-old man and the child.
The 56-year-old woman was brought to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition. The 39-year-old woman, the man and the boy were initially reported in stable condition.
A 40-year-old woman sustained minor injuries and declined hospital transport. UW Medicine later said all patients under its care had suffered gunshot wounds.
The hospital said an adult woman remained in critical condition while undergoing surgery. The child, the 23-year-old man and the 39-year-old woman were listed in satisfactory condition.
Police urged the public to stay away from Seattle Center as the investigation continued. Authorities had not released the identities of those killed or additional details about the suspect.
