The Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the appeal filed by the House of Representatives in the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
The House, represented by the Office of the Solicitor General, argued that impeachment should not be constrained by procedural requirements not explicitly stated in the Constitution.
The High Court, however, upheld its earlier ruling, reinforcing that constitutional rules and procedural safeguards must be observed in impeachment proceedings.
The SC outlined a seven-point framework aimed at ensuring fairness in handling impeachment complaints.
These guidelines include providing the respondent with a copy of the Articles of Impeachment, sharing evidence, and allowing sufficient time for a response.
The ruling effectively ends the legal challenge by the House, reaffirming the court’s authority in interpreting the rules governing impeachment.
The decision follows the Senate’s earlier vote to archive the impeachment case, closing the chapter on the matter for now.
