SBMA Assures Public on Safety of Radioactive Cargo Transfer

Amid recent reports and public concerns surrounding the proposed transfer of radioactive cargo from the Port of Manila to the Port of Subic, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) reiterates its firm commitment to safeguarding the safety, health, and well-being of the Subic Bay Freeport community.

SBMA confirms that the subject cargo has been duly certified by the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) and complies with all prescribed safety requirements. The certification affirms that the materials meet stringent national and international regulations governing the handling, transport, and storage of radioactive substances.

In close coordination with relevant regulatory agencies, SBMA continues to exercise strict oversight over all activities involving hazardous materials within the Freeport. Such operations are subjected to comprehensive risk assessments, rigorous safety protocols, and continuous monitoring to ensure the protection of public health, environmental integrity, and overall security.

SBMA remains fully committed to transparency and proactive engagement as developments unfold. The Authority will continue to provide timely and accurate information to the public while ensuring that all regulatory safeguards are consistently enforced.

We reaffirm our dedication to preserving the Subic Bay Freeport as a safe, secure, and thriving center for commerce, tourism, and industry.
