The Sharks Billiards Association (SBA) is set to return this September with a bigger and more exciting second season. Building on the momentum of a successful debut, Season 2 will feature expanded rosters, a new format, and the addition of a new team, promising fans more thrilling cue action.
From last season’s four teams with five players each, the SBA is upping the ante with five teams composed of six players apiece. Competing in a round-robin, point-based format, each team will face all other teams at least three times before advancing to a best-of-five championship series.
Returning to the fray are defending champions Taguig, alongside Quezon City, Manila, and Negros Occidental. Newcomer Makati joins the league to round out the expanded field. The official player draft is scheduled for July 29.
“Season 1 was a huge success. We were thrilled by the response,” said SBA founder Hadley Mariano during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. “We also introduced a new fan experience—allowing the crowd to cheer and engage even while players are taking shots.”
Season 2 will feature three main events:
- King of the Hill – a dynamic one-on-one format where a new player steps in after every rack,
- Doubles, and
- Traditional One-on-One matches.
“This is no longer just an individual sport,” Mariano added. “Team chemistry is now essential. It’s more exciting and strategic—it’s become a true team sport.”
The upcoming season is made possible through the support of Smart Sports, Cignal TV, and MSW, with additional backing from San Miguel Corporation, PSC, Philippine Olympic Committee, MILO, Smart/PLDT, and the 24/7 sports app ArenaPlus.
With higher stakes, a deeper talent pool, and a more engaging format, SBA Season 2 is shaping up to be a must-watch for billiards fans across the country.
