The Filipino Music Awards made history with its inaugural ceremony held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on October 21, shining a spotlight on the artistry, passion, and legacy that define Original Pilipino Music (OPM).
SB19, hailed as the country’s national boy group, swept the night with six major wins—including Artist of the Year and Pop Song of the Year for their explosive hit DUNGKA!. Their dominance underscored the group’s continued influence on modern OPM.
Accepting the Artist of the Year award, SB19 member Justin expressed heartfelt gratitude:
“Thank you so much for this opportunity and for giving a platform to musicians and artists. To all the artists here—thank you for never stopping to make music and to send messages to Filipinos. That’s what truly matters.”
Cup of Joe also emerged as one of the evening’s biggest winners, taking home Song of the Year for Multo and Album of the Year for their debut record Silakbo. Multo, a haunting ballad that captures the soul, has reigned atop the Philippine Hot 100 and Top Philippine Songs chart for an unprecedented 27 consecutive weeks—a record-breaking feat in local music history.
The event gathered the country’s most prominent OPM icons and rising stars for a night of celebration and collaboration. Among the show-stopping performances were SB19 and Ben&Ben’s stirring rendition of Kapangyarihan, and an emotional tribute featuring Yeng Constantino, Lolita Carbon, and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra performing Masdan Mo Ang Kapaligiran.
