ISTANBUL — Saudi authorities on Sunday lifted emergency warnings in three southwestern areas after earlier alerting residents to a potential security threat.

In separate posts on social media platform X, Saudi Civil Defense said its early warning system was activated in the cities of Abha and Jazan and Khamis Mushait governorate before authorities subsequently declared the areas safe.

Officials did not disclose the nature of the threat or report any casualties or damage.

Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition announced that its air defenses had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile and a drone launched by Yemen’s Houthi group toward southern Saudi Arabia.

Authorities did not specify whether the emergency alerts were directly linked to the intercepted projectiles.

The developments came amid escalating hostilities between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition, which supports Yemen’s internationally recognized government.

Saudi Arabia has experienced repeated missile and drone attacks attributed to the Houthis in recent weeks, heightening security concerns in the kingdom’s southern regions.
