The Sandiganbayan ordered the 90-day preventive suspension of Sen. Jinggoy Estrada over charges linked to the flood control scandal.

In a resolution, the anti-graft court’s Second Division directed Estrada’s suspension from his post as senator and from any other public office he may be holding.

The court said the suspension would run for 90 days from Estrada’s receipt of the resolution.

It added that the suspension would take effect once the resolution becomes final.

The order came two weeks before Estrada and his co-accused were scheduled for arraignment before the Sandiganbayan’s Fifth Division.

The arraignment involves plunder and graft charges stemming from the flood control controversy.

The court cited the Plunder Law, which requires the suspension of a public official facing criminal prosecution under a valid information for plunder.

It also cited the Anti-Graft Law, which provides for the suspension of public officials charged with graft or other criminal offenses under the Revised Penal Code.
