The Sandiganbayan has acquitted former vice president Jejomar Binay and his son, former Makati mayor Jejomar “Junjun” Binay Jr., of graft, falsification of public documents, and malversation charges linked to the allegedly overpriced Makati City Parking Building.
The P2.2-billion project began during the elder Binay’s term as Makati mayor and was continued by his son from 2010 to 2013.
During the trial, Junjun Binay told the court that he “merely approved the release of payments in 2011 and 2013” and emphasized that the bidding and post-bidding activities were “performed by persons other than him.”
The anti-graft court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
After the ruling, the Binays declined to answer questions from the media.
