The Jeffrey Epstein case has drawn attention to what Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called pervasive corruption among Western elites.
Speaking to local media on Sunday, Zakharova said the scandal reflects collusion among powerful figures in multiple countries and international organizations.
She described the crimes linked to Epstein as intentional acts of evil rather than the result of moral weakness or desperation.
Zakharova warned that the case offers only a partial view of a much larger pattern, calling it “a small snowflake on a huge iceberg.”
The US Justice Department recently released vast records under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, including over 3 million pages of documents, 2,000 videos, and 180,000 images.
The documents provide insight into Epstein’s connections with business leaders, media personalities, government officials, and billionaires both in the United States and abroad.
Epstein was found dead in a New York City jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges involving minors.
The case has continued to reverberate globally, raising questions about accountability among influential figures and the mechanisms that allowed the crimes to persist.
