The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Friday that it will distribute approximately PHP1.8 billion worth of laptops and smart televisions to public schools across the country.
More than 62,000 laptops and smart TVs will be provided starting in the second half of this year as part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to enhance digital learning.
“This year, our computerization programs will continue with the support of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. and my fellow Cabinet members. Our goal is for each school to have an ‘e-cart’ or mobile computer lab that all students can use,” DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara said in a statement.
To ensure the timely acquisition of these devices, the DepEd expedited the procurement process through Early Procurement Activities (EPA) within the first six months of Angara’s tenure.
Among the 16 regions, Calabarzon (Region 4-A), Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas received the highest allocation of information and communication technology (ICT) resources, according to the DepEd.
“In addition, we are equipping our teachers with various software tools to support their work,” Angara added.
As of February 4, the DepEd had recorded an EPA for 23,614 smart TV packages, 33,539 laptops for teachers, and 5,328 laptops for non-teaching personnel.
