Malacañang on Sunday refuted allegations made by Senator Imee Marcos that the administration was pressuring lawmakers to support the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the claims raised by Marcos should be backed by evidence, stressing that accusations without proof carry little weight.

She also said some officials had grown used to relying on speculation, instead of presenting verifiable information.

Castro further criticized what she described as questionable practices, making reference to former president Rodrigo Duterte, and urged public officials not to adopt such approaches.

Marcos earlier claimed that some members of the House of Representatives and the Senate were facing intimidation if they refused to support the impeachment complaint.

She alleged that certain lawmakers were being threatened with possible cases before the Office of the Ombudsman and other government agencies.

The senator also said some legislators had complained about delays in the release of their budget allocations, which could affect funding for projects in their districts.

The House is set to vote on the impeachment complaint, with at least 106 votes required to approve the Articles of Impeachment and transmit them to the Senate for trial.
