Romualdez commends PNP for significant drop in focus crimes

Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez praised the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday for its improved crime prevention strategies, which have led to a notable reduction in focus crimes nationwide.

According to PNP data, focus crimes dropped by 26.76 percent, from 4,817 cases between January 1 and February 14, 2024, to 3,528 in the same period this year. Focus crimes include theft, robbery, rape, murder, homicide, physical injury, and vehicle-related crimes. Rape saw the most significant decline, with a reduction of over 50 percent.

Romualdez commended the PNP for its “stronger, smarter policing” under the leadership of Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, highlighting both the drop in crime rates and the swift response in high-profile cases. He pointed to the March 30 road rage incident in Antipolo City, where quick police action led to the arrest of the suspect involved in a shooting that injured four people.

“These results reflect discipline, innovation, and a renewed commitment to public safety. The Antipolo incident, in particular, shows how far the PNP has come in terms of speed and responsiveness,” Romualdez said.

The Speaker emphasized the importance of continuing to equip the police with the necessary tools and support to maintain public safety and restore confidence in law enforcement.

“We cannot afford to lose this momentum. Let this be a wake-up call to would-be offenders and a reassurance to every law-abiding Filipino — peace and order is non-negotiable,” Romualdez added.
