Rising stars blaze through ITF J30 Manila as semifinal cast takes shape

Top seed Yi-Ching Huang of Chinese Taipei kept her title bid alive after outlasting No. 8 Kim Rae Youn, 7-6 (4), 7-5, to secure a spot in the girls’ singles semifinals of the ITF J30 Manila 1 on Friday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Huang now braces for a clash with No. 6 Paweenon Nualsri of Thailand, who pulled off one of the day’s biggest upsets by toppling No. 4 seed Ying Chi Chloe Wong of Hong Kong, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, in a gritty three-set battle.

Second seed Seojin Park of South Korea dominated No. 7 Pin-Tsen Chou of Chinese Taipei, 6-2, 6-3, to march into the semifinals, where she will face No. 3 Pimlaphat Lim of Thailand. Lim cruised past compatriot Pimpisa Wongwanitkajon with an identical 6-2, 6-3 victory to complete the Final Four cast.

In the boys’ division, China’s No. 2 seed Ruochen Gao dismantled No. 5 Kango Endoh of Japan, 6-4, 6-3, to earn a semifinal berth against qualifier Shun Munetoh. The Japanese youngster continued his surprise run after rallying past Thailand’s No. 4 seed Napat Pattanalertphan, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Japan’s No. 6 Kuranosuke Suzuki booked a free ride to the semifinals following a walkover win against top seed Luke Jie Xi Ho of Singapore. Suzuki will take on compatriot Aoi Ishizaki, who delivered a strong 6-4, 6-2 victory over No. 3 Ariyaphol Leekul of Thailand.

In doubles action, fourth-seeded Aoi Ishizaki and Kango Endoh barged into the semifinals with a solid 6-3, 6-3 win over Filipino duo James Vynald Ryle Aquino and Gavin Kraut. The Japanese tandem is set to face Singaporeans Leon Wei Xi Ho and Luke Jie Ho, who stunned top seeds Ariyaphol Leekul and Napat Pattanalertphan, 6-4, 5-7, 10-7.

Chinese Taipei’s Ziche Chen and Wei-Cheng Tang also moved into the semis after overcoming Andre Harnadi of Singapore and Prachanda Komarla of Australia, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 10-4.
