Remulla seeks drug test for Isabela vice mayor over alleged behavior

MANILA – Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said he wants Isabela Vice Mayor Harold Respicio to undergo a drug test, questioning the local official’s behavior during an apparent confrontation.

“Gusto ko i-drug test muna eh. Tingin ko talaga adik eh. Meron bang vice mayor na kung manigaw, eh ganon?” Remulla said.

The DILG chief made the remark after footage involving Respicio drew attention, showing the vice mayor raising his voice and pointing during what appeared to be an official proceeding.

Remulla suggested that Respicio undergo drug testing to address concerns he raised about the vice mayor’s conduct.

However, Remulla did not cite drug-test results or other evidence showing that Respicio had used illegal drugs. His statement reflects his own allegation and does not establish illegal drug use by the local official.

A drug test would be needed to provide objective findings on the allegation.

Respicio’s response to Remulla’s remarks was not immediately available in the information provided.

The controversy comes as the Department of the Interior and Local Government continues to oversee local government operations and the conduct of local officials nationwide.
