Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez was not permitted to leave the country for a scheduled medical trip abroad.

Remulla said the travel request to Singapore was denied as part of ongoing proceedings involving the lawmaker.

He added that the Office of the Ombudsman had already referred a complaint to the Anti-Money Laundering Council.

The move, he said, was intended to support efforts to secure an asset freeze order against Romualdez.

Remulla noted that authorities were awaiting the AMLC’s action on the request for a freeze order.

He said the endorsement formed part of the government’s broader legal steps in the case.

The Ombudsman made the remarks during a press conference on Tuesday.
