In a bold move to address Metro Manila’s worsening traffic woes, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla has proposed a sweeping ban on street parking across the metropolis from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The proposal, aimed at easing chronic road congestion, was presented during a high-level meeting with Metro Manila mayors, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday, August 1.
MMDA Chairperson Romando Artes offered a complementary suggestion, calling for a no-parking policy along side streets during the busiest hours of the day—specifically the morning and afternoon rush hours.
The meeting underscored a growing urgency among government officials to adopt more aggressive measures to reclaim roads and improve traffic flow in one of the world’s most congested urban centers. Both proposals are now under review and could shape the region’s traffic management strategies in the coming months.
Public consultations and input from local government units are expected before any new policies are officially implemented.
