Executive Secretary Ralph Recto expressed optimism Wednesday that lawmakers can pass the anti-political dynasty bill ahead of the filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2028 elections.
Recto said a practical version of the measure could be approved as long as proposals remain moderate and workable.
He added that both the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the Office of the President are actively studying the draft legislation.
The Palace official noted that the bill is considered a priority, reflecting the administration’s commitment to limiting the influence of political families.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has previously urged Congress to fast-track the measure, emphasizing the need to implement the 1987 Constitution’s provision against political dynasties.
Several bills have been filed in both chambers seeking to give effect to the constitutional mandate, with some lawmakers pushing for the President to certify the measure as urgent legislation.
Recto said that the political landscape in the country has evolved, which makes passing the anti-dynasty bill a timely and necessary reform.
