Ramil Madriaga arrived at the House of Representatives on Tuesday to testify in the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

He was brought to the House complex from a detention facility in Taguig City after lawmakers issued a subpoena requiring his presence and submission of documents.

Madriaga was expected to present his affidavit and other materials he claimed to have in relation to the allegations against Duterte.

Committee on justice chair Gerville Luistro said the panel sought to hear directly from Madriaga to help determine whether the complaints filed against the Vice President had basis.

Duterte’s legal team questioned the credibility of the witness, saying his testimony would not support the accusations.

Madriaga earlier claimed he had served as an aide to Duterte and allegedly handled cash deliveries upon her instructions, an assertion the Vice President has repeatedly denied.

Her camp also filed a perjury case against him, maintaining that the allegations were false.

The House panel has been determining whether there is probable cause to elevate the impeachment case to the Senate, where a trial would be conducted if endorsed by at least one third of lawmakers.
