The provincial government of Ilocos Norte distributed fuel assistance to farmers on Monday as part of efforts to ease the impact of rising oil prices.

A total of 234 farmers from different areas in the province received vouchers equivalent to 30 liters of fuel each through a partnership with a local fuel provider.

Governor Cecilia Araneta Marcos said the assistance was meant to help ease the burden on farmers amid increasing costs.

She noted that the provincial government has been exploring ways to support affected sectors as fuel prices continue to rise.

Aside from fuel vouchers, the province also handed out family food packs and bags of inorganic fertilizer under its agricultural support program.

The initiative aimed to help sustain the livelihood of farmers and fisherfolk in local communities.

The governor said the provincial government has already coordinated with national agencies for additional fuel assistance, which is still pending release.

Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture (DA) earlier announced a Php 75 million fuel subsidy program for fisherfolk, targeting over 15,000 beneficiaries nationwide.
