Filipinos should brace for a wet weekend as the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) and the prevailing southwesterly windflow are expected to bring rains across several parts of the country, the state weather bureau said Saturday.

In its 4 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will persist over Palawan, Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao due to the southwesterly windflow.

Meanwhile, the trough of the LPA will also dump rains over Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro. PAGASA cautioned residents in these areas against possible flash floods and landslides, especially during moderate to heavy downpours.

Elsewhere, fairer weather will prevail, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers or thunderstorms likely due to localized thunderstorms.

Winds over Extreme Northern Luzon will be moderate, accompanied by moderate seas, while the rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas, PAGASA added.

The bureau continues to monitor the LPA’s movement and possible development in the coming days as the southwest monsoon enhances rainfall in parts of the archipelago.
