TALK about a strong comeback.

Kevin Quiambao returned following a two-week hiatus to heal a right ankle injury for Goyang Sono on Tuesday afternoon at the Goyang Sono Arena.

Yet despite the effort by the two-time UAAP MVP, the Skygunners couldn’t hold off the challenge, falling to the Anyang JKJ Red Boosters, 69-94, in their latest KBL outing.

Quiambao, who had missed the Skygunners’ previous three games after injuring his ankle during their January 12 loss to the Seoul SK Knights, finished with 14 points, five assists, and four rebounds in 29 minutes of play.

He shot 5-of-15 shooting performance, while solid, wasn’t enough to push Goyang Sono to a win.

The Skygunners were within striking distance at halftime, trailing 43-51, but Anyang JKJ’s explosive third quarter, which saw them outscore Goyang Sono 24-15, shifted the momentum in their favor.

By the end of the third, the Skygunners were facing a daunting 75-58 deficit, and the Red Boosters never looked back.

In the final period, Anyang JKJ asserted their dominance, building a commanding 90-65 lead with just over two minutes remaining to secure their third consecutive victory.

For Goyang Sono, the defeat marked their fifth loss in six games, dropping them to the bottom of the standings with a 10-23 record.

Meanwhile, Anyang’s Javi Gomez de Liaño had a quiet performance, finishing scoreless with just one rebound in 4:49 of play, but the Red Boosters didn’t need much more from him. Their win moved them to 11-23, leaving them in ninth place.

Earlier in the day, Calvin Epistola and Busan KCC extended their winning streak to three games, overcoming SJ Belangel and Daegu KOGAS in a dramatic 87-81 win at the Daegu Gymnasium.
