Quezon City explores partnership to expand zero-waste practices nationwide

QUEZON CITY – Mayor Joy Belmonte met with Mother Earth Foundation Founding Chairperson Sonia Mendoza to discuss Quezon City’s potential participation in the RACE TO 100: The Philippine Zero Waste Challenge, an initiative aimed at expanding sustainable waste management practices across the country.

The program seeks to increase the number of local government units implementing zero-waste practices from 50 to at least 100 by 2030.

During the meeting, Belmonte and Mendoza discussed opportunities for collaboration to support the initiative and encourage more local governments to adopt environmentally sustainable waste management systems.

Quezon City Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department head Andrea Villaroman also attended the meeting, expressing support for the program.

The initiative promotes zero-waste practices that prioritize waste reduction, segregation, recycling and resource recovery to minimize the amount of garbage sent to disposal facilities.

Through the proposed collaboration, Quezon City aims to contribute to broader efforts to strengthen environmental sustainability and encourage responsible waste management among local communities.

The RACE TO 100 initiative highlights the role of local governments in advancing sustainable environmental practices and reducing waste generation nationwide.
