Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet Myanmar leader Min Aung Hlaing at the Kremlin on Tuesday, August 18, as the two countries seek to deepen their bilateral relationship.

The Kremlin said the meeting would form part of Min Aung Hlaing’s official visit to Russia and would cover opportunities to expand cooperation across several sectors.

Putin and Min Aung Hlaing are also expected to discuss regional and international developments during their talks.

The two governments plan to sign several bilateral documents, although Moscow did not provide details on the agreements.

Russia and Myanmar have developed close political and defense relations, while Moscow has also pursued energy and infrastructure projects in the Southeast Asian country.

The leaders have met several times in recent years, including during Min Aung Hlaing’s visit to the Kremlin in March 2025.

The Myanmar leader traveled to Russia on three occasions in 2025, including for Moscow’s commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the World Atomic Week forum.

Despite the frequent high-level exchanges, Putin has yet to make an official visit to Myanmar.
