The Presidential Task Force on Media Security condemned the shooting of broadcaster Jay Lavapiez by unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants in Roxas City, Capiz.
Lavapiez was driving along the national highway in Barangay Cagay around 5 a.m. Monday when the attack happened.
He was on his way to the radio station when the gunmen opened fire.
Lavapiez survived the shooting.
Authorities later recovered four spent shell casings at the scene.
The PTFoMS said acts of violence and intimidation against journalists have no place in a democratic society.
It said the incident showed the need to strengthen protection for media workers, who play a key role in informing the public.
The task force said it was investigating the attack with the Philippine National Police Media Vanguards. It also urged media groups, civil society organizations, and government agencies to work together to ensure that journalists can perform their duties without fear.
