Former Ateneo men’s basketball head coach Tab Baldwin is expected to appear before the National Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday over the drowning deaths of players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.
Baldwin’s scheduled appearance came after he failed to comply with an earlier subpoena from the NBI.
The bureau is investigating the deaths of Baterbonia and Adili during a team-building activity at a resort in Dipaculao, Aurora, on June 8.
NBI Director Melvin Matibag said Baldwin was scheduled to appear before investigators on Tuesday.
Baldwin was first ordered to appear before the bureau last Tuesday, but his lawyer, Karl David, appeared on his behalf and said the former coach was not in good condition.
His appearance was then reset to Friday, but Baldwin also missed that schedule after appearing before the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group on the same day.
The lawyers of assistant coach CJ Elumba and student manager Paulo Adivoso appeared before the NBI Homicide Division on Monday in connection with the same investigation.
Baterbonia, 19, had played in the Palarong Pambansa finals and committed to the Blue Eagles program two weeks before the incident, while Adili, 21, a student-athlete from Nigeria, played in the UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball tournament.
