BULACAN – Rising tennis stars Stefi Marithe Aludo and Tennielle Madis of the Philippine Tennis Association (PTA) booked their places in the championship round of the Gentry National Open Tennis Championships after dispatching their respective opponents in dominant fashion Friday at the Colegio San Agustin hardcourts in San Jose del Monte City.
Aludo, the tournament’s seventh seed, stunned second seed Tiffany Claire Nocos with a commanding 6-3, 6-0 victory to reach her first Gentry Open final. Madis, the No. 6 seed and the country’s top junior player, followed with an equally emphatic 6-3, 6-0 triumph over eighth seed Rachel Patricia Velez.
The title showdown marks the first singles final meeting between Aludo and Madis, who recently captured the PCA Open women’s doubles crown as a tandem.
“For me, it’s really the mental part,” said the 17-year-old Aludo. “I have to fight for every point and stay focused point by point. That’s the key if I want to win against Tennielle.”
Madis, 18, from M’lang, North Cotabato, is gunning for back-to-back singles championships after ruling the PCA Open with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Kaye Anne Emana. “It would be nice to win another title. I’ll give it everything I have, but I also know Stefi will do her best,” she said.
The Gentry National Open, staged in partnership with the Palawan Pawnshop National Tennis Championships, offers a total of P2 million in cash prizes. The men’s singles champion will receive P300,000, while the runner-up takes home P150,000. In the women’s division, the champion will earn P100,000 and the finalist P50,000.
