The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is set to roll out a series of innovations for a more modern and enhanced Batang Pinoy National Championships, happening from October 25 to 30 in General Santos City.

More than 15,000 young athletes, aged 17 and under, will compete across a wide range of sports, including aquatics, archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, cycling, dancesport, futsal, gymnastics, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, karate, muay thai, pencak silat, sepak takraw, soft tennis, tennis, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, and wushu.

“Our goal this year is to give our young athletes an experience that mirrors the standards of international competitions,” PSC Chair Richard Bachmann said during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum in Manila on Tuesday.

Joining him at the forum were project director Nino Deo Urquiaga and heads of the PSC’s technical working groups. The session was presented by San Miguel Corporation, the PSC, and the Philippine Olympic Committee.

Among the key upgrades are a QR code-based system for real-time access to event schedules and results, sport-specific adjustments to the age brackets, and improved transportation logistics—including the use of electric jeepneys—to support athletes and delegates throughout the week-long event in the country’s “Tuna Capital.”

PSC officials, along with Urquiaga, recently conducted an on-site inspection of the event venues, accompanied by General Santos City Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao.

“We’re fortunate to have the full support and enthusiasm of the local government,” said Urquiaga.
