Pope Francis has named Monsignor Glenn Corsiga as the new bishop of the Diocese of Ipil in Zamboanga Sibugay. The announcement was made by the Vatican at 12 noon (6 p.m. Manila time) on Monday.
The Ipil diocese had been without a bishop since August 2023 following the transfer of Archbishop Julius Tonel to the Archdiocese of Zamboanga. Monsignor Elizar Cielo has been serving as the diocesan administrator.
Corsiga was born in Dumaguete and ordained as a priest for the Dumaguete diocese in 1993. He studied philosophy at St. Joseph Seminary College and theology at Divine Word Seminary in Tagaytay. Over the years, he has served in various roles including parish vicar, spiritual director, rector, and chaplain. In 2011, Pope Benedict XVI granted him the honorary title of “monsignor.” Since 2017, he has served as vicar general of the diocese and currently leads the St. Augustine of Hippo Parish in Bacong, Negros Oriental.
Meanwhile, the Diocese of Pagadian is set to welcome Bishop-elect Ronald Anthony Timoner. His episcopal ordination and installation will take place on August 13 at the Sto. Niño Cathedral in Pagadian City.
Timoner, 53, was appointed by the Pope on April 2. He is a priest from the Diocese of Daet in Camarines Norte and has served as its diocesan administrator since May 2024. He will succeed Bishop Ronald Lunas, who died in January 2024. The diocese has since been under the care of Archbishop Martin Jumoad of Ozamis as apostolic administrator.
“Join us in prayer and celebration. Let us witness this blessed moment of grace for our diocese. As we prepare for Bishop-elect Ronald Anthony Timoner’s ordination and installation, we trust in God’s beautiful unfolding plan for our diocese,” the Diocese of Pagadian shared on social media.
