BERNADETH Pons makes things happen for Creamline.
WHEN Creamline’s immaculate record was on the line, a hard-smashing, high-flying spiker came through as its patron – with a saintly name to boot.
Bernadeth Pons led Creamline to another victory, keeping the Cool Smashers undefeated through seven matches in the 2024-2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.
Pons has been a consistent force for the reigning champions, contributing both offensively and defensively in key moments.
In a tense match on Saturday night, Pons played a crucial role in securing a 25-19, 26-24, 23-25, 23-25, 15-9 win over Cignal after Creamline had blown a two-set lead.
Pons finished with 27 points, including 24 kills, two aces, one block, and 14 digs, powering her team through a decisive fifth set.
“We didn’t think about being down two sets in the fifth set. It felt like a fresh start,” Pons said. “It was great because our energy came back. We lost that energy in the third and fourth sets.”
Pons’ outstanding performances have earned her the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week award for the period of January 28 to February 1.
Even though she played only two sets in a 25-12, 25-21, 25-19 sweep of Nxled last Tuesday, Pons contributed 13 points and 12 digs, continuing her dominant play.
She outperformed a competitive field, including her teammate Kyle Negrito, PLDT’s Savi Davison, ZUS’ Jov Gonzaga, Akari’s Ivy Lacsina, and Trisha Tubu, who set a career-high 33 points in Farm Fresh’s win over Galeries Tower.
Pons credits her success to the competitive environment within the Creamline roster, which consistently challenges her to improve.
“My goal is to be consistent. Every day, even if it’s just a one percent improvement,” said Pons. “The training is competitive, and no one makes it easy to score. It pushes me to keep improving and never settle.”
Pons was instrumental in Creamline’s success during the 2024 Reinforced Conference, leading the team in the absence of key players like Alyssa Valdez, Tots Carlos, and Jema Galanza. Her efforts earned her the MVP award.
