Police arrested a 40-year-old Filipino man linked to a hit-and-run incident after authorities recovered illegal drugs and an unlicensed firearm during his apprehension in Carmona City, Cavite.
The incident stemmed from a road collision involving a motorcycle along Governors Drive in Barangay Mabuhay at about 10:17 p.m. on February 22, 2026, prompting responding officers to immediately pursue the fleeing driver.
Investigators said the suspect initially left the scene but was later intercepted in front of a bank along Governors Drive in Barangay Maderan, General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite, following a coordinated response by personnel from the Carmona City Police Station.
A search conducted after the arrest led to the recovery of a 9mm Bersa Thunder Ultra Compact handgun and 22 live rounds of ammunition, which authorities said were not covered by any valid license or permit.
Operatives also seized eleven heat-sealed sachets of suspected shabu weighing about 75 grams with an estimated street value of Php 510,000, along with a digital weighing scale, a glass tube, and other drug paraphernalia.
All confiscated items were inventoried and secured under established chain of custody procedures as part of the ongoing investigation, police said.
According to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., the combination of a hit-and-run incident and the possession of illegal drugs and a firearm underscored the potential risk posed to public safety.
The suspect is now under the custody of the Carmona City Police Station, while authorities prepare the necessary documents for the filing of appropriate charges before the Office of the City Prosecutor.
