Five individuals, including two Chinese citizens, were arrested on Tuesday for alleged illegal mining activities in Barangay Wasian, Rosario, police reported Wednesday.
The operation was conducted with support from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Bunawan. Authorities seized two excavators, a generator set, a water pump, 12 artificial turf mats, and two wooden pans valued at Php 6.1 million.
Police identified the suspects as Chen, 50, and Ty, 55, both from Hubei, China; Boy, 36, of Esperanza, Agusan del Sur; Jean, 36, of Marilog District, Davao City; and Jenny, 41, of Bunawan, Agusan del Sur.
PRO-13 Director Brig. Gen. Marcial Mariano Magistrado said the five were charged with violations of Sections 102 and 103 of the Philippine Mining Act of 1995 at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Prosperidad.
Magistrado said police in Caraga and partner agencies are committed to intensifying efforts against illegal mining and other environmental crimes.
He added that the operation reflects the police’s dedication to upholding the law and protecting natural resources.
Authorities encouraged residents to report any information on illegal mining or other unlawful activities in their communities.
The police said ongoing campaigns aim to prevent environmental degradation while promoting sustainable management of natural resources in the region.
