Poland ended heightened military aviation and air-defense operations early Tuesday after monitoring Russian drone strikes in western Ukraine, saying its airspace was not breached.

The Polish Armed Forces said fighter aviation, ground-based air defenses and radar systems had returned to normal operations after being placed on alert during the Russian attacks.

Authorities said no violation of Polish airspace was detected during the response.

Poland had earlier scrambled military aircraft and increased readiness after Russian jet-powered drones struck targets in western Ukraine close to NATO territory.

The military said it continued to monitor developments and remained prepared to react if the security situation changed.

In Kyiv, a drone hit a petrol station early Tuesday, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, as Russia continued aerial attacks across Ukraine.

Poland, which joined NATO in 1999, has repeatedly raised the readiness of its air defenses and combat aircraft when Russian missile and drone attacks occur near its border.

The precautionary deployments reflect concern among eastern NATO members over the risk that weapons, debris or aircraft involved in the war could cross into alliance territory.
