Roger Pogoy has always been known as a silent operator on the court—but in Game 1 of the PBA Finals, he roared like a warrior.
Despite nursing injuries that would sideline most players, Pogoy suited up for TNT and delivered a gritty performance that helped his team draw first blood in the series. His resilience, hustle, and unrelenting spirit lit a fire under the Tropang Giga, who held on for a hard-fought win against their fierce rivals.
There were no flashy dunks or highlight-reel moves from Pogoy—just pure heart. He crashed the boards, chased loose balls, and hit crucial buckets when his team needed them the most. Time and again, he took hits and kept going, refusing to let pain dictate his game.
“I couldn’t sit this one out,” Pogoy said after the game. “It’s the Finals. If I can still run, I’ll play.”
His stat line may not tell the whole story, but his impact was undeniable. Whether it was diving for a steal or knocking down a corner triple to halt the opponent’s momentum, Pogoy made plays that defined the game.
Head coach Chot Reyes praised the veteran swingman’s toughness and leadership, calling him “the heart of the team tonight.”
With Pogoy setting the tone, TNT now heads into Game 2 with momentum and a deeper belief in their title chase. And if his Game 1 performance is any indication, the Tropang Giga’s warrior isn’t backing down anytime soon.
