Police arrested one person and seized nine firearms during a pursuit operation after a shooting incident in General Santos City on Wednesday, July 8.
The Philippine National Police said the incident took place in Barangay Labangal, where officers responded to a reported land dispute that led to gunfire.
Personnel from Police Station 2 of the General Santos City Police Office arrived at the scene and found a male security guard who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound.
A joint team from Police Station 2, the City Intelligence Unit, City Mobile Force Company, SWAT and the City Drug and Intelligence Management Unit then launched an operation to track down those allegedly involved.
Police said the team later encountered a group in Purok Mudia, Barangay Labangal, believed to have links to the shooting.
One of them, identified by the alias Mohammad Kidto, 35, of General Santos City, was arrested during the operation.
Authorities said a search after the arrest led to the recovery of nine firearms, composed of seven shotguns and two semi-automatic shotguns, which were turned over for examination and documentation.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. commended the responding units for acting swiftly and securing the area, saying police operations would continue to be carried out within legal bounds while follow-up efforts sought to identify and locate other persons allegedly involved.
