PNP seeks to remove Alvin Que from kidnap-slay case due to lack of evidence

The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Thursday that it will request the removal of Alvin Que, son of slain businessman Anson Que, from the list of respondents in a kidnapping and murder case recently filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ).

According to PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, there is no direct or corroborative evidence linking 42-year-old Alvin Que—also identified as Ronxian Gou or Alvin Aue—to the crime, aside from the claims made by Chinese national David Tan Liao.

“There is no direct evidence tying Alvin Que to the kidnapping of his father,” Fajardo stated during a press briefing at Camp Crame. “We are weighing Liao’s full statement, including his allegations that Alvin was behind the plot, but so far, it lacks support from other pieces of evidence.”

Liao, a key figure in the case, surrendered following the arrest of two Filipino suspects in Palawan. He accused Alvin Que of orchestrating the abduction and killing of Anson Que.

Alvin Que’s lawyer, Kit Belmonte, said the PNP has acknowledged that Liao’s statement is the sole basis for naming his client as a respondent.

“The PNP informed us that there is no evidence beyond David Tan Liao’s claim to implicate Alvin. As such, they are submitting a motion to the DOJ to amend the complaint and remove his name from the respondent list,” Belmonte said in a statement to the media.

He also expressed appreciation for the swift action taken by the PNP under Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil in addressing erroneous reports about his client.

Fajardo noted that Alvin Que is cooperating fully with authorities, including the Anti-Kidnapping Group, and has submitted his cellphone for forensic examination.

Anson Que, a prominent steel businessman, and his driver Armanie Pabillo were last seen on March 29 after leaving Que’s office in Valenzuela City. Their bodies were discovered on April 9 along a roadside in Rodriguez, Rizal.
