PNP ramps up disaster preparations for TD Wilma

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed all its regional and local units on high alert, mobilizing personnel and assets in anticipation of Tropical Depression (TD) Wilma’s potential adverse effects.

Following a directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. issued orders Friday for all concerned police offices to execute comprehensive readiness plans. This proactive stance is aimed at ensuring public safety and minimizing damage as the weather disturbance tracks toward the country.

“Our personnel on the ground have been alerted and are ready,” Nartatez.

He emphasized that the police force is working closely with local government units (LGUs) and other relevant government agencies to maximize the effectiveness of the government’s response strategy.

Key measures being implemented include continuous monitoring of weather bureau forecasts, coordination for potential preemptive evacuations, and the prepositioning of essential mobility and rescue assets.

The acting PNP chief also urged local communities to stay informed through official weather updates and to cooperate fully with authorities to guarantee their safety during the weather disturbance.
