The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday said it is investigating two police officers in separate cases involving alleged abuse in Manila and Cebu.
PNP Acting Chief PLt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered the relief of the two officers and placed them under restrictive custody pending the outcome of the probes.
He also directed the filing of criminal and administrative cases, stressing that complaints against police personnel are taken seriously to protect the integrity of the organization.
In Manila, a police officer is accused of sexually assaulting a 27-year-old woman who reported the incident to the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption, with medico-legal findings cited by police.
Authorities said CCTV footage allegedly showed the suspect carrying an unconscious woman into a motel in Sampaloc, Manila, on December 4.
The officer’s legal counsel has denied the accusation, claiming the encounter was consensual.
In a separate incident in Cebu, a police officer was accused of punching a person with disability after a heated altercation while both were riding motorcycles, an incident allegedly captured on viral CCTV footage.
