As the nation prepares to head to the polls, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has entered full operational readiness beginning May 3, ramping up security efforts to ensure peaceful and credible national and local elections on May 12.
The PNP’s nationwide full alert status—activated at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, May 3—will remain in effect until May 15. This move aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to preserve public order and protect the sanctity of the vote.
Police General Rommel Francisco Marbil, PNP Chief, emphasized the organization’s commitment to a violence-free election season.
“This is not just a security operation—it’s a stand for democracy,” Marbil said. “We are fully mobilized to ensure the elections are conducted in a peaceful, honest, and orderly manner. Any attempt to undermine the process through violence or intimidation will not be tolerated.”
In coordination with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and other government institutions, the PNP is deploying additional personnel to polling stations, high-risk zones, and transportation hubs. These areas will see a marked increase in uniformed officers, checkpoints, and mobile patrols.
Key operational units—including Reactionary Standby Support Forces (RSSF) and Quick Reaction Forces (QRF)—have been placed on standby to respond swiftly to any security threat or emergency situation during the critical election period.
Beyond physical security, the PNP is also turning to the public for support. Citizens are urged to remain alert, report any suspicious activity, and cooperate with law enforcement personnel.
“This is a shared responsibility,” Marbil added. “We ask every Filipino to be vigilant and proactive. If you see something unusual, speak up. Help us protect your right to vote safely and without fear.”
The PNP assured the public that law enforcement’s presence is not meant to intimidate, but to empower. The overarching goal: a credible election where every Filipino voice is heard, counted, and respected.
With less than two weeks to go before the country casts its vote, preparations are intensifying—but so is the call for unity. For the PNP and the communities they serve, this election is more than a logistical challenge—it’s a moment to affirm democracy.
