Philippine National Police arrested a 19-year-old man in Quezon City on March 2 after a report to the Unified 911 system flagged a person allegedly carrying a firearm in public, police said Tuesday.
Authorities said the alert was received shortly before 1 p.m., prompting personnel from the Quezon City Police District, Police Station 7, to proceed to Barangay Socorro in Cubao, where residents reported seeing a man with a gun along Stanford Street near Aurora Boulevard.
Responding officers located a suspect who matched the description provided by callers and approached him for verification, according to the police account.
During the encounter, the man was unable to present a license or authority to possess a firearm, prompting officers to take him into custody.
Police said a caliber .556 revolver loaded with two live rounds was recovered from the suspect during the arrest.
The man was brought to Police Station 7 for documentation as investigators prepared charges for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
A background check later showed that the suspect had previous police records related to illegal gambling and theft, authorities added, noting that inquest proceedings were underway.
