PNP destroys P29-M worth of marijuana in northern provinces

The Philippine National Police (PNP) carried out coordinated operations across Mountain Province, Kalinga, Benguet, and Ilocos Sur, destroying illegal marijuana crops and processed materials valued at around Php 29.41 million.

In Mount Paras, along the boundary of Sadanga, Mountain Province and Tinglayan, Kalinga, authorities removed 50,000 fully grown marijuana plants and 40 kilograms of dried stalks and leaves, estimated at Php 14.8 million.

Operations in Sitios Paitan and Naptong, Barangay Badeo, Kibungan, Benguet, resulted in the destruction of 11,250 fully grown marijuana plants and 84,000 grams of dried leaves, with a combined value of Php 12.33 million.

In Sitio Lod-on, Kapangan, Benguet, police eradicated 3,300 marijuana plants worth Php 660,000. In Sugpon, Ilocos Sur, 8,100 plants valued at Php 1.62 million were destroyed.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the operations underline the bureau’s commitment to eliminating sources of illegal drugs.

“Ipinapakita ng mga operasyong ito ang ating matibay na commitment na buwagin ang pinagmumulan ng ilegal na droga at panatilihing ligtas ang ating mga komunidad. Walang puwang ang ilegal na droga sa ating bansa,” Nartatez said.

He added that close coordination with partner agencies and local communities remains central to sustaining anti-drug campaigns.

Officials said the eradication efforts are part of the PNP Focused Agenda, specifically under the Enhanced Managing Police Operations program, which aims to strengthen anti-illegal drug measures nationwide.

Authorities emphasized that the operations reinforce law enforcement’s role in protecting communities and maintaining peace and order, in line with government directives on combating narcotics trafficking.
