The Philippine National Police (PNP) dismissed circulating reports that Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III resigned from his post following the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte last week.
In a statement to The STAR, PNP Public Information Office chief Col. Randulf Tuaño clarified that the online posts referencing Torre’s resignation were misleading and actually referred to his resignation offer during his tenure as the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chief.
Torre previously stepped down as QCPD chief in August 2023 after a road rage incident involving a police officer and a cyclist along Quezon Avenue. At the time, the PNP stated that his resignation aimed to ensure an impartial investigation into the case. Torre himself emphasized that he wanted to prevent any cover-up and was committed to uncovering the truth.
He was later replaced by Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan.
Despite the recent rumors, Torre remains in his role as CIDG chief and was responsible for serving the arrest warrant for Duterte on March 11.
