PNP-CIDG subpoenas over 21 individuals in P3.5-B shabu smuggling probe

MANILA – The Philippine National Police–Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) has issued subpoenas to more than 21 individuals as part of its investigation into an alleged attempt to smuggle Php 3.5 billion worth of shabu from Laos into the Philippines on October 1.

The individuals were summoned to provide information and clarify their possible involvement in the attempted illegal drug shipment.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla earlier identified 11 persons of interest in the investigation, including Police Master Sgt. Aileen Jayne Manalo Mendoza, a member of the PNP Aviation Security Group.

Authorities are seeking to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged smuggling operation and determine the possible roles of those linked to the shipment.

The PNP emphasized that individuals who received subpoenas should cooperate with investigators, noting that the proceedings would also give them an opportunity to explain their side.

The issuance of subpoenas does not automatically establish criminal liability, as investigators must still evaluate the evidence gathered during the investigation.

The PNP-CIDG continues its investigation into the attempted shipment as authorities work to identify those responsible for the alleged illegal drug operation.
