CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – A former rebel voluntarily turned over six explosive devices to authorities in Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro, as part of continuing efforts to strengthen peace and security in the province.

The 43-year-old former rebel, identified only as “Ka Balwig,” a resident of Barangay Lisap, surrendered three 40mm grenades and three rocket/rifle grenades at the headquarters of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) in Barangay Bagong Bayan II.

The surrender was facilitated through coordination among the Bongabong Municipal Police Station, Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and other government agencies.

Following the turnover, 2nd PMFC Commander Police Lt. Col. Israel Magnaye transferred the explosives to Police Lt. Angelo Sakdalan, chief of the Provincial Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit, for proper handling and safekeeping.

Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office Director Col. Efraim Camara welcomed the voluntary surrender, saying it helped prevent potential threats to public safety.

“Pinahahalagahan natin ang kusang-loob na pagsuko ng mga pampasabog dahil nakatutulong ito upang maiwasan ang posibleng panganib sa ating mga kababayan,” Camara said.

He also encouraged other former rebels seeking to return to civilian life to coordinate with authorities.

“Nananatiling bukas ang ating mga pintuan para sa mga nagnanais talikuran ang armadong pakikibaka at mamuhay nang mapayapa kasama ang kanilang pamilya at komunidad,” he added.

The Oriental Mindoro police assured the public that coordination with the military and other government agencies would continue to support peacebuilding initiatives and protect communities from security threats.
