Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez said authorities could consider restricting violent films and television programs as part of broader efforts to curb crimes involving minors.
Nartatez said Monday that children were influenced not only by schools but also by their families, communities, social media use and other aspects of their environment.
He added that similar restrictions could be studied for violent content on social media platforms, online applications and other digital services.
The proposal came after a 14-year-old student allegedly stabbed and killed a 13-year-old classmate inside Las Piñas National High School on Friday.
Police said the attack reportedly stemmed from a dispute involving Php 10.
Nartatez said school violence required a wider response that addressed both the immediate causes of conflict and the environments shaping young people’s behavior.
Concerns over campus safety had also grown after two minors allegedly carried out a shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City in June, killing three students and injuring 20 others.
The PNP earlier said social media and online games may have influenced the suspects. The incident also led police to study a possible social media ban for minors as part of what Nartatez described as a broader approach to youth safety.
