The Philippine National Police arrested three former members of the Communist Terrorist Group who were wanted in separate criminal cases during coordinated operations in Mindanao.
The arrests were conducted on July 13 and 15 in Sarangani, Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Norte, according to the PNP.
Police identified the suspects only by the aliases “Leo,” “Mike” and “Nika,” all of whom were the subjects of outstanding warrants.
The cases involved murder, attempted murder, robbery with violence or intimidation, multiple attempted murder, and alleged violations of Republic Act No. 9851.
The law covers crimes against international humanitarian law, genocide and other crimes against humanity.
Police records indicated that the three had previously been listed as members of the communist group and were included in the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Periodic Status Report of Listed Target Groups.
PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the arrests were based on court-issued warrants and were carried out with due regard for the suspects’ rights and established procedures.
He added that the operations reflected continued coordination among police units and partner agencies in tracking wanted persons and bringing them before the courts.
