Police and military personnel recovered suspected explosive materials and improvised explosive device components during an operation in Casiguran, Sorsogon, on Aug. 6.
Authorities said the seized items included electric blasting caps, capacitors, battery holders, improvised hand grenades, wires and other electrical components believed to be associated with IED assembly.
The materials were placed under the custody of the Sorsogon Provincial Explosive and Canine Unit for documentation, examination and proper disposition.
The Philippine National Police said the operation was carried out through intelligence-based coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the recovery was treated as a preventive security measure aimed at keeping potentially dangerous materials away from communities.
He added that authorities would continue acting on information involving possible threats while observing established procedures and legal safeguards.
The PNP also urged the public to immediately report suspicious activity or potentially dangerous materials to Unified 911 or the nearest police station.
Police said information provided by the public would be handled confidentially and assessed by the proper authorities.
