Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III on Thursday lauded President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s decision to reset his Cabinet, calling it a “great move” that allows the President to reorganize his team effectively.
Pimentel expressed his support following Marcos’ request for all Cabinet secretaries to submit courtesy resignations. According to the senator, the move enables the President to refresh his administration while avoiding unnecessary political drama.
“This is a great move by the President. It gives him a chance to regroup his team and spares those affected from baseless intrigues,” Pimentel said in a statement.
He also urged Marcos to prioritize appointing officials who are driven by public service rather than political ambition.
“It’s best to recruit individuals who aren’t eyeing a position in the 2028 elections. These non-political personalities can be more objective and scientific in their approach to governance,” Pimentel added.
The Cabinet shake-up follows the conclusion of the 2025 midterm elections. President Marcos has said the reset will allow him to evaluate the performance of each department and align his leadership team with the evolving priorities of his administration.
